Warlord: Awaji Stamina & Blocking Guide

Verified for Live Steam build vR101–vR107s (Oct 2026) · 2026-10-02
Stamina is primarily your blocking resource. It regenerates automatically, but low stamina makes blocks leak damage and zero stamina can put your weapon at risk. The safest habit is to block only the attack you need to stop, disengage briefly, recover, then re-enter instead of holding block through an entire melee.

What stamina does

The playtest tutorial is unusually specific: all characters, including the player, have stamina; stamina is used to block incoming attacks; and it regenerates automatically.

What happens when stamina gets low

Low stamina is not just a smaller bar. Incoming attacks can still damage you even while blocking. That means the visual state of "I am blocking" is not enough by itself to guarantee safety.

At zero stamina, the tutorial warns that you may risk dropping your weapon. In a crowded fight, that can turn a recoverable situation into an immediate collapse.

A safer blocking rhythm

Use this as a simple mental model:

Block → create space → recover → re-engage.

Avoid holding block while multiple enemies keep feeding attacks into your stamina. If you have room, backing off for a short recovery window is often more valuable than squeezing in one extra swing.

Why large melees feel much harder

Several playtest creators found the combat much more punishing than the first Warlord game. Without a simple shield-based solution and with friendly/enemy silhouettes looking similar, you can get hit from directions you are not reading.

The defensive answer is not only mechanical. Positioning matters: fight near allies, avoid being surrounded, and use weapon reach to reduce how many enemies can reach you at once.

Why this matters more after vR107

Difficulty multiplies damage your units take. After the Steam Balance Patch, Regular is 1.2 (old Veteran), Hardened is 1.8, and Veteran is 2.2. Low-stamina blocks that leaked a little damage on launch week now dump a lot more health. The block → space → recover rhythm is not optional on Hardened or Veteran, and even Regular now hits like the old top setting.
